This is our final cut of the opening 'Abridged' which includes all 3 of our company idents. We feel our completed final cut involves all possible improvements suggested by others and ourselves.

Abridged - Rough Cut 5
With this version we have extended certain clips that we feel needed changing and added our main title at the end overplaying the time-lapse. We now need to add the company dents to create a final cut.

Abridged (Rough Cut) No.2
What we have added:
- cut away shots
In this rough cut we have added rough cut away shots to create more fluency within the opening. Music is yet to be added to this rough cut.
Abridged (Rough Cut) No.1
This rough cut consists of our bones to the film including basic shots involving the main characters. Looking at this rough cut, its evidently clear that cut away shots are required. This is to create fluency to the film and makes the viewer actually believe they are watching a film. These cut away shots also set the scene.

Evidence of Time Management
We feel we have had a good use of communication between the group and cast. We have contacted each other through various ways (mainly text) which has enabled us to work efficiently and effectively. Our time management has been consisted throughout production as we have met deadlines. Due to the convenience of our central protagonist being my father, it was easy to communicate and organise dates. We have screenshotted evidence of this:
Messages with Louis
Messages with Milo
Group chat with both Milo and Louis
Google calendar was also used to remind myself of any upcoming filming dates.

Location Scouting
Film Opening
We decided to call the film "Abridged". This was because the important location in our opening is on a bridgea and also the word abridged means to shorten so this could have connotations with the shortening of a life.
We have 2 main characters:
The production company is Wong Productions in association with JR Productions and the distribution company is Atko Studios.
Roles:
- Director- Tom
- Cinematographor- Tom
- Sound- Louis
- Editor- Milo
- Screenplay- Milo
- Storyboard- Tom
- Call Sheet- Louis
We went on a recce to look for some possible locations to film our opening. Here are some photos that were taken:

Production Diary
My main role behind this process had been a majority of camera work. Louis and Milo then had the roles of acting, editing and the sound. I have discovered that lighting can cause an major issue and how to change the lighting accordingly to the environment.
22nd January 2016
Set Targets:
- Finish shots that were initially arranged
- Begin to think about overplaying music/soundtrack
25th January 2016
We are currently in the process of creating music to go over our opening using Garageband and I am becoming much more comfortable with the software. Due to our differentiation between scenes and characters, it is difficult to contrast the music to work. As we move through the creation of our film, ideas and additions keep being made to ultimately produce a better film. For example, the suggestion was made that we need more cut away shots, so cut-away shots are being added more frequently within our film.
26th January 2016
With confirmation from our teacher, we have gathered a group of shots that need taking to get us closer to completing our film. These include:
- Shot of River
- Shot of Mike and milo speaking across river (long shot)
- Various cut away shots
- another shot from under the bridge in burley
Set Targets:
- Finish filming the footage
- Create music to play over the footage
- Create company idents
9th February 2016
To this date we have filmed all of our footage and I have also began to crea the music using Garageband to put over our opening. I have concluded that the music and sound is highly important within our film as it helps to give the audience a feel of the mood. I have decided to mix and slow track ('to build a home') into a more grime sort of beat. This then stereotypically matches the characters as grime is associated with lower class, and slower music (piano) is associated with upper class.

Abridged (finalised idea)
2 Characters: Kieran (20 years old)
Michael (60 years old)
Michael = successful businessman / very wealthy
= depressed due to a tragic accident involving the death of his beloved wife
Kieran = criminal youth (drug dealing thug)
The film opens with the 2 characters waking up on a standard morning. We see the older man wake up first and take the picture from his bed-side table to then kiss it and spread a tear (at this point we don't know whats on the picture). A jump cut then takes place to Kieran waking up and smoking a cigarette. The images behind both of these characters will be totally different due to there difference in wealth and class. A series of jump cuts then take place between both of these characters. We then see both characters getting ready to go out. The elder gentleman goes to visit the cemetery where his wife is buried. then we see the Kieran waiting underneath dark tunnel then threatening another fellow youth (shouting at him for his money, whilst hands around his neck). we then see Michael on his hands and knees by the grave crying and praying. Jumps to Kieran doing a drug deal down and discrete alley way. Once again jumping to Michael walking depressingly down a dark path. the moment we see the characters both meet is on the bridge where they both walk past each other. The older man then waits at the peak of the bridge where he looks suspiciously like he is going to jump. Kieran walks past him and looks intrigued as to what is up-to. Kieran makes himself hidden whilst still watching Michael until Michael moves. Michael carries on staring down over the bridge with a rather depressed look upon his face. Michael is about to jump but is then stopped my Kieran screaming "stop! get down from there man"
At this point the opening ends and a time lapse takes place of the bridge with thew water running beneath it. The title then appears above

POST PRODUCTION SCRIPT - 7th December 2015
Young boy: Kieran
Man: Michael
OPENING:
1. EXT: Opening montage
This opening montage will show clips of the two main actors getting up and how this part of their life, like many other aspects of their lives, is so different from each other. The montage does not include any dialogue hence the lack of a script for this part of the film.
The first shot of the montage includes the man waking up early and looking to his bedside table and picking up a picture. He sheds a tear and puts the picture down. The camera then focuses on the picture of his once happy family as he gets up to leave the room.
The second shot of the montage includes the young boy waking up in a dirty room and turns to his bedside table to find a cigarette. He sparks a cigarette and then proceeds to get up.
The 3rd shot of the montage includes the man in a nice bedroom putting on his tie whilst looking in the mirror.
The 4th shot of the montage includes Kieran looking in a dirty mirror putting his hood up.
2. EXT: Graveyard
The old man walks into the cemetery slowly. The old man is dressed in a suit, holding a bouquet of flowers and walking respectively through the cemetery towards a specific tombstone. He looks sad and depressed with his head looking down to the ground.
3. EXT: Tunnel scene
Kieran is loitering around in a tunnel located under a dual carriage way. He is looking suspicious and constantly looking both ways to see if someone is coming. He has one hand in his pocket and he is smoking a cigarette in the other. He is dressed in a full tracksuit and can be stereotypically associated as being a 'chav'.
Kieran looks left as he sees another young male enter the tunnel and walk towards Kieran. Kieran immediately throws his cigarette onto the floor and grabs the male by the neck pushing him up to the wall aggressively.
Kieran
Yo bruv where the fucks my money
Young male
*breathing heavily and stuttering*
Kieran
where the fucks my money
Young male
*breathing fast and heavy* I'll get it to you for 6 man..... Please man allow me i'm sorry
*breathing fast and heavy* I'll get it to you for 6 man..... Please man allow me i'm sorry
Kieran
*smiles*
4. EXT: Graveyard scene
The old man reaches the tombstone in which his wife's name is engraved. The old man takes a deep breathe and kneels down to place the bouquet on to the grave. A tear runs down the face of the old man as he closes his eyes for a moment. He then stands up and walks off with his hands in his pocket.
5. EXT: Drug deal scene
Kieran takes place in a drug deal with another young male. Kieran walks down an alleyway and very smoothly hands over a small bag of drugs whilst the other male hands him a £20 note. The two people then walk opposite ways down the alley. Kieran then emerges into a council estate in which he walks down the street.
5. EXT: Bridge scene
Kieran is walking down a bridge whilst talking on the phone and with a cigarette behind his ear. He walks past the old man who is stood looking out over the river. The boy when past him continues to look back and watch what the old man and what he is doing.
The old man then proceeds to try step up onto the edge of the bridge but fails to lift his leg up completely and stumbles back. The young boy consequently saw this and runs over to stop the man from proceeding with this suicidal intention.

Essay
Evaluate the role of digital technologies in the marketing and consumption of products in the media area you have studied. (film)
In this essay I will be writing about how film companies such as Working Title and Warp Films market their films and how their films are watched by the general public. A digital technology is basically anything involving a computer based appliance.
One aspect that these two film companies look into is digital marketing. Digital technology use is a large factor of everyones life nowadays, with almost everyone having access to digital technology. Examples of digital marketing would be advertisement and promotion through social media, websites etc... Working Title and Warp Films take different approaches in the way that they market their films. Generally Working Title are about making money. They spend a lot of the making, marketing and promoting of the film, in order to make large profits. Whereas Warp Films aren't so much about making money. These figures below show a clear distinction between how much is spent on their films. Four lions was infact a huge success for Warp Films but we can still see its far off Everest. Everest was marketed by Working Title in a large scale. It's trailer was televised and was used as an advertisement before YouTube videos regularly. Working title evidently spent a lot on the marketing of this film due to the large gross worldwide. Generally high amounts of money spent on marketing, will result in high amount of profit. Four Lions marketed their film on a much minor scale. The online and Mobile marketing campaign was much more simpler for four lions and directed ant a certain audience. Myspace, Facebook, Twitter (they did not use every social networking site but still used quite a few) and trailers. They did not have such a big online presence as Everest did.
Everest (Working Title) : Box Office Four Lions (Warp Films) : Box Office
$55,000,000 (estimated) £2,500,000 (estimated)
Gross: Gross:
$202,394,678 (Worldwide) £2,686,096 (UK)
$301,527 (USA)
Another large aspect that these two film companies focus on is how their films are consumpted (viewed by the public). For example, the cinema, TV, subscription based (netflix, amazon prime etc...). Warp Films are a much smaller company and usually don't make it to the cinema. But a lot of their films occur on subscription based applications and websites such as Netflix or Amazon Prime. Whereas Working Title on the over hand, they fill the cinemas with their films and get a much larger audience. After the film has been on at the cinema for a while, it will then come out on DVD, television and subscription based companies. Working Title gain a much larger audience due to their large efforts within marketing and promoting the film.

Essay Feedback
I recently received feedback for my essay and it was disappointing with a mark of 21/50. The general comment left was:
"Tom this is a bit of a disappointing effort, especially given that you could have drawn on any information you wanted, a luxury you won't have in the exam. Its important to start with an essay plan so you know you are going to touch on all the points you want to make. Then think of specific examples for each one. The examples marks was only 9 because you didn't use specific examples. Given that the question was about digital marketing you could have thought of a major release, Star Wars The Force Awakens even and thought about the various way the film was marketed digitally compared to the limited number of ways films made by, say Warp, are marketed."

Ill Manors opening sequence
This is the opening sequence to Ill Manors, which in parts has a similar sort of theme to our film opening. We have taken a few ideas out of this opening to add to ours. The theme of Ill Manors is social realism. Likewise, so is ours. Shots similar to these will be included in our opening:
This particular shot is a time-lapse, then the title appears in large block writing. We will be using the same concept but over a bridge with a running river beneath it.
